Vic: Elderly couple attacked in robbery attempt
An elderly Melbourne couple was attacked and injured by a knife-wielding man who tried
to rob their milk bar in northern suburban Thornbury last night.
Police say a 75-year-old woman was punched in the head and fell to the floor, hurting
both her head and back.
A man aged 80 was cut on the hand and knocked to the ground.
A police spokesman says the would-be robber went into the Clarendon Street milk bar
armed with the knife and wearing a balaclava.
He confronted a 19-year-old shop assistant, who ran from the store.
The man then began to break into the till and the elderly pair came from their dwelling
at the back of the shop to see what was happening.
The man assaulted the couple and fled empty-handed, leaving the pair wounded and lying
on the shop floor.
Both were taken to a private hospital, where they're believed to be in a satisfactory condition.
